Percy Whitlock (1903-1946) was an English composer and organist. He studied at the Royal College of Music and became an assistant organist at Salisbury Cathedral at the age of 18. He then served as organist and choirmaster at various churches and cathedrals in England, including St. Stephen's Church in Bournemouth and St. Peter's Church in Berkhamsted.
Whitlock was also a prolific composer, writing music for organ, choir, and orchestra. His most famous works include the Organ Sonata in C minor and the Fantasie Choral No.1 in D minor. He also wrote a number of liturgical pieces, including canticles, anthems, and hymn tunes.
Whitlock's music is known for its lyrical melodies and lush harmonies. His style is often compared to that of other British composers of the early 20th century, such as Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Despite his relatively short career, Whitlock is widely regarded as one of the leading English composers of his time.
